I was one of the first clients of Aisha Bartels, the founder of the I AM WOMAN concept. At the time I met Aisha, I had not trained in a gym for several months and I had only been intermittently jogging, perhaps 2-3 times a week. I had become very frustrated after a knee injury reduced my running to almost nothing. 


I had put on weight, lost muscle tone and just overall was not motivated and could not seem to get out of the rut I was in. 

I did not really know what to do with myself without running and knew that a gym was the answer but I also did not want to be in a mixed gender gym. This was for various reasons, including not really knowing what to do with the equipment, not knowing what kind of program to do, and not wanting to be uncomfortable in the training environment. 

The best decision I made for myself was to commit to five sessions a week with Aisha for 8 weeks. For me, the commitment of needing to show up every day for my appointment was exactly the routine I needed to get back on the righ track. Over my 8 weeks at I AM WOMAN, Aisha really encouraged and supported me in eating whole, unprocessed foods, drinking an increased amount of water, cycling to and from the gym and just overall working at changing my lifestyle, not just my training. This is honestly what sets this business apart from a regular gym: working with someone who really lives and breathes their own positive philosophy and really wants clients to achieve everything that they can. 


The I AM WOMAN facility is perfect: bright, clean, sleek, private, with top quality equipment and a great upbeat vibe. Having spent 40 hours in there during the past 8 weeks, I can tell you that I was very happy with the quality of the facility. I also personally enjoy the all-female training environment. It has been nothing but encouraging and motivational and there really is just something about women working hard together that is awesome. 


Of course the most important thing is the trainer herself. Aisha has somehow managed to get me to enjoy weights training for the first time in my life! She pushed me hard and was positive and motivating every single day. The days where I didn't see the results I wanted on the scales or with an exercise, she was able to pick me back up and make sure I stayed with the program. This is critical, and has really helped me to see past just my weight as a measure of success. For people like me, who have always used weight as a metric, learning how to use a measuring tape, clothing sizes and photographs has been an amazing eye opener. 

As for my results: you can see the photographs and judge for yourself! I cannot actually believe the transformation in 8 weeks, especially in my waist measurements. I lost 13cm from my waist in 8 weeks, and gone from my size 10 (Aus sizes) being tight to now fitting into a size 6 *Google disclaimer: results may vary person to person. Having now learnt the exercises and feeling much more confident to train alone, I'm going to continue with this program and see what more I achieve.


One last important thing: Aisha was able to modify the program to strengthen my injured knee. I was able to increase from less than 30 minutes (slow jogging at about 6.30/km) to running 10km at 5.27/km without pain. I have the full range of motion back in my knee and I truly put this down to the strength program and focus on technique at I AM WOMAN. *Google disclaimer: results may vary  person to person.

Overall I have finished the 8 week program much stronger, lighter, more toned, slimmer, faster and my injury has resolved. I very much recommend Aisha Bartels and I AM WOMAN to any woman who needs a bit of motivation and change.
